About Luther Music

Luther Music started in 1996 as Yamaha’s first piano franchisee and has since expanded to several business units. Today the company operates two retail stores, one specializing in keyboards & the other in acoustic guitars/home studio, a guitar spa providing repair & enhancement services and an events arm supplying rental & installation solutions to music venues. Luther Music has always been a place for musicians around Singapore, amateur or professional, who seek a good musical instrument, a fair price, service without an attitude and simple honest answers.

Our business mantra in doing business with anyone, is to provide:

Quality instruments – the brands and models that we select and represent must sound great and work great. Nothing else really.

Reasonable prices – our prices are structured to be competitive and give you fair value. Check around and you will find out that we don’t ever ‘rip’ people off. We sell with a clear conscience always.

Sound advice – you can be a total beginner or the most complete idiot and we will still explain things to you or at least refer you to the correct source. Our close connection with many musicians and industry players allows us to constantly form unbiased & knowledgeable opinions on products that we will gladly pass on to you.

Great service - we do our best to make sure you leave our store satisfied. Your friends don’t recommend you back to us for no reason and we promise to work hard for you and not take any of our customers for granted.

Meet the Owners

Luther is the founder of Luther Music.

He grew up in the 70s and 80s dabbling in pop and jazz piano. Spending his early years in various school bands, he soon developed a reputation for being an accomplished young keyboard player.

He progressed to the unforgiving bar & night club circuit and did extensive music production work – all this while working as a full-time keyboard sales consultant for Yamaha Music. He was also their first club keyboard teacher and penned its curriculum. It was through his close relationship with Yamaha and his industrious efforts that he was offered the opportunity to operate Yamaha’s first piano franchise, hence the birth of Luther Music in 1996.

Over the years, this natural entrepreneur has expanded his love from keyboards to all other contemporary musical instruments including recording equipment and live sound, in fact anything that makes him salivate musically.

Today, he is really the only true and complete ‘go-to’ guy in Singapore when you have any sort of musical problem along the audio chain. His deep passion for music and instruments is positively infectious and he will gladly connect personally on this subject if he meets you.

“To me, I dedicate my life to learning and sharing music knowledge with my customers especially the hard-working individuals of the local music industry. The other dedication in my life is of the gastronomic kind.”

Ray started his musical journey in the 80s. His love for the vibrant pop scene then led him to the keyboard and the electronic sound. His experiments with electronic music fused with pop & rock gave him an eclectic yet profound perspective of music while his love for keyboards developed his strong rudiments in new age music.

Ray expanded his musical domain further when he served 6 years as Yamaha's Keyboard & Pro Audio Specialist during the 90s. The environment there also stirred his interest in guitar repairs. He then moved on to do music arrangement for a few years before making a decision to study guitar making in Vancouver, Canada in 2002. He returned in 2004 having attended the Guitar Summit School where he honed his craft in this rare trade.

It was inevitable that a skilled luthier, a multi-disciplined musician and simply a guy who eats and breathe music would gravitate towards the ethos of Luther Music. So In 2005, Ray began his collaboration with Luther and is now partner to the company. Today he is instrumental in expanding and setting strategic directions for the business, all this while repairing guitars and serving customers. Talk about commitment and conviction.

“It gives me immense joy to transform the guitar into an instrument that gives my customers the opportunity to elevate themselves to another musical level”. Ray too dedicates a significant part of his life to that of the gastronomic kind.
